The Big South-OVC Football Association named its weekly honorees and a pair of Tennessee State Tigers, quarterback Draylen Ellis, and linebacker Sanders Ellis were among the recognized players.
Co-Offensive Player of the Week- Draylen Ellis | Quarterback | Tennessee State
Ellis put together his second strong outing of the season. In the Tigers’ 41-28 win over Arkansas Pine Bluff in the Southern Heritage Classic, Ellis completed 20 of his 33 pass attempts for 226 yards, 3 touchdowns, and no interceptions, while also running for 25 yards on 3 carries and was named MVP of the game. Nationally, the graduate student ranks 11th in passing yards (712), 9th in passing touchdowns (6), 15th in total offense (257 ypg), 17th in passing efficiency (149.0), and 22nd in points responsible for per game (12.0). This is the second time on the season Ellis has received weekly honors, having previously named Offensive Player of the Week after Week 1.

Against Arkansas Pine Bluff in Saturday’s Southern Heritage Classic, Ellis recorded 5 tackles (3 solo,2 assisted) 2.5 tackles for loss as well as 1.5 sacks. On the season, he has 12 tackles ( assisted, 6 solo), 4 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. The 1.3 tackles for loss the Nashville, Tennessee native averages, ranks 28th in the country.
This saturday TSU travels to Cookeville, Tennessee to take on Tennessee Tech to open Big South-OVC conference play.
